PEORIA, Ill. -- First-year Bradley women's basketball head coach Michael Brooks has his first recruit in place with 5-10 guard Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) signing a National Letter of Intent to attend Bradley during the Fall Signing Period.
The Mississippi Athletic Conference Player of the Year as a junior, Lerma averaged 15.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last year while helping Muscatine to its first conference title in 10 years. She starts her senior year ranked among Muscatine's top five in scoring with 903 career points and ranks in the top 10 in career rebounding after earning all-state honors last year. Lerma helped her squad to a 19-4 record and regional final appearance in 2011-12.
"We are so excited to add Leti into our family," said Brooks. "She has such a passion for Bradley University and where are program is heading. Leti is a versatile athlete and compliments the style which we play perfectly. She comes from a great Muscatine program, coached by Susan Orvis, and has the ability to stretch a defense with her outside shot and attack the basket off the dribble. Defensively, she is long and will allow us to be flexible as we build our defensive system."
A First-Team All-State selection by the Iowa Newspaper Association, she also garnered Second-Team All-State honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association last year. Lerma was a first-team all-district honoree in addition to taking home Quad City Times All-Metro First-Team plaudits. She also earned all-conference honors in softball this spring.
The Bradley women's basketball team continues a season-long, five-game road swing Tuesday with a 4 p.m. (CST) contest at South Florida in Tampa, Fla.
