PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore guard Shronda Butts (Des Moines, Iowa/East) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 assists in a pair of Bradley home victories last week.

Butts scored 17 points each in home wins against Northern Illinois and Winthrop last week in addition to averaging 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals.  She shot 55.6 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range in the wins in addition to averaging nine free throw attempts per contest.

Butts scored a team-high 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting and matched a career-high with five assists in a 67-58 victory against Northern Illinois.  She capped the week with another 17-point effort against Winthrop, scoring 11 points in the second half to help Bradley take control of the game.  In addition to her scoring, Butts made 7-of-11 free throw attempts and hauled down a career-best seven rebounds to go with five assists Saturday against the Eagles.  A sports communication major, Butts owns a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Butts and the Braves return to action Tuesday, Dec. 18, hosting Illinois-Chicago in a 6 p.m. game at Renaissance Coliseum in the final non-conference home game of the year.
