Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sophomore Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) had a strong debut in her first game in a Bradley uniform, scoring the game-winning run when she stole home in the top of the eighth inning and drove in BU's other run in a 2-1, eight-inning victory against UC Santa Barbara Friday morning in the Braves first game at the 2012 Kajikawa Classic.

Bradley (1-0 overall) left 11 runners on base, but sophomore Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) gave up just five hits and one earned run in the complete game victory for the Braves.

UC Santa Barbara (0-2 overall) got on the board first when Keilani Jennings led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run.

BU answered with a run in the top of the third inning to tie things up at 1-1.  Sophomore Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Catham Glenwood) drew a leadoff walk and seniors Julie Sherman (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) and Jackie Roth (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) singled to load the bases, before Basham drew a two-out walk to drive in Cole from third.

With the score knotted at 1-1 after seven innings, Basham opened the top of the eighth inning on second due to the international tie break rule and advanced to second on an interference call.  Freshman Shannon King (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) drew a walk to give Bradley runners at first and third with no outs, but Gaucho hurler Shelby Wisdom struck out the next two batters she faced for the first two outs of the inning.

Basham stole home with what proved to be the game-winning run after King was forced back to first on a steal attempt and Lynch-Crumrine retired the three batters she faced in the bottom half of the eighth to close out the victory.

Basham went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI, while Sherman was 2-for-4 at the plate to highlight BU's offensive efforts.  Lunch-Crumrine scattered five hits over eight innings and struck out three, while walking just one.

Bradley continues play at the Kajikawa Classic later today with a 5 p.m. (CST) game against Idaho State.
