Box Score CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Sophomore Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) took a shutout into the fifth, before Syracuse capitalized on a Bradley error for three unearned runs in the inning and the Orange went on to top the Braves 5-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Bradley (10-11 overall) managed just two hits against Syracuse starter Jenna Caira, who struck out eight and walked two in five innings of work.
Lynch-Crumrine got one of two BU hits in the game, doubling to right center to open the fourth for the Braves first hit of the game. She gave up just two hits in the first four innings of the contest and took a shutout into the fifth when Syracuse (13-8 overall) took advantage of a Bradley error.
Julie Wambold struck out, but reached on a wild pitch to open the inning and moved to third after a sacrifice and a Bradley error. Wambold scored the first run of the game when Shirley Daniels reached on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Lisaira Daniels gave the Orange a 2-0 lead. The third unearned run of the inning scored on a ground-rule double by Lacey Kohl as Syracuse took a 3-0 lead into the late innings.
Sophomore Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) singled to leadoff the fifth for the Braves, but it proved to be the final hit of the game for BU. The Braves left three runners in scoring position and stranded five base runners overall in the loss.
Syracuse added two more runs in the top of the seventh, with Daniels hitting a two-run double to right center to give her squad a 5-0 lead and knock Lynch-Crumrine out of the game. Lynch-Crumrine took the loss in the circle to fall to 5-8 on the year. She struck out four and walked one, while giving up five runs (two earned) in six and one-third innings.
Sophomore Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) drew her team-leading 18th and 19th walks of the year. Her 19 walks are tied for the eighth best season total in school history.
Bradley plays a 4 p.m. game at SIU Edwardsville Thursday before opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a three-game series against Creighton Saturday and Sunday at Laura Bradley Park. Saturday's doubleheader against the Bluejays will start at noon.
