PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore runner Cassie Lohmeier (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after finishing seventh in the 3,000 meters at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold.
Lohmeier opened the outdoor season strong, becoming the fourth Bradley individual to run a sub 10-minute time in the 3,000 meters Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. Her time of 9:59.66 is fourth on BU's career best list and she joined freshman Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax), Mary Ellen Hill and Mary Goldkamp as the only Bradley runners to clock a sub 10-minute time in the 3,000 meters. A health science major, Lohmeier owns a 3.90 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Lohmeier and the Braves return to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the EIU Big Blue in Charleston, Ill.
