EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Freshman Molly Dahlquist ran a team season-best 4:35.94 to lead a dominating performance by the Bradley women in the 1,500-Meter Run in the Gateway Classic Saturday at Korte Stadium.
Paced by Dahlquist, who became the eighth-fastest 1,500-meter runner in Bradley women's track and field history, the Braves claimed six of the top eight spots in the 1,500-Meters Saturday. Emily Delvo took second place in 4:36.69, while Whitney Schumacher (4:41.22), Kyela Specht (4:43.67), Sarah McMahon (4:44.37) and Cassie Lohmeier (4:48.63) claimed places fifth through eighth.
"We are really excited about the effort from the women's team today," head coach Marc Burns said. "Molly and Emily looked strong in the 1500 meters. Molly closed in 49 for the last 300m and Emily was just behind her. Whitney Schumacher ran a smart race and finished strong. It was nice to see Hannah Booker close hard in the 800 meters and run her fastest time in a couple of years. We are seeing development in all of the events and will continue to work hard in preparation for the conference meet in May. We will be going after a couple of school records this week at the Drake Relays in the 4 x 1600m relay and 4 x 800m relay. Our big goals are to break 20 minutes in the 4 x 1600m and break nine minutes in the 4 x 800m. McMahon will have a nice opportunity in the 5000 meters too. It should be fun at the one of the most exciting track meets in the world."
Among the other Saturday highlights for the Bradley women, Tatierra Bivens finished fifth in the 100-Meter Dash by clocking a team season-best 13.18 seconds. In addition, Jennifer Wiley ran a team season-best 28.38 seconds for a ninth-place finish in the 200 meters.
The Braves will return to action by participating in the Drake Relays Thursday and Friday, followed by the Western Illinois Twilight Saturday.
