DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Bradley women's track and field team opened competition at the 103rd Drake Relays with a school record in the 4x1,600 meter relay Thursday afternoon. On the men's side, sophomore Nathan Davis (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) turned in the sixth fastest 10,000 meter time in program history.
The group of sophomore Cassie Lohmeier (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) along with freshmen Molly Dahlquist (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame), Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) finished fourth in the 4x1,600 meter relay, crossing the line in a school-record time of 19:45.65. BU's time was 10 seconds out of the top three and broke the previous school record set in 2003.
"Our women's 4x1,600-meter relay made history tonight," head coach Marc Burns said. "Molly set the tone with a big lead-off leg handing off in second. Kyela, Emily and Cassie came up huge with fantastic efforts. We are so proud of these women. It is awesome to finish fourth at the Drake Relays and beat both Illinois and Illinois State."
Davis was the only Brave to compete for the men, posting the sixth fastest time in program history in the 10,000 meters. He finished 20th in the field with a time of 30:54.69.
Freshman Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) capped the night with a 17th place finish in the women's 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 17:11.50.
Bradley will continue competition at the Drake Relays Friday in the men's 4x1,600 meters and the women's 4x800 meter relay. The Braves will also send a group to Macomb, Ill., Sunday for the Western Illinois Twilight.
