HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Freshman Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) tied for 21st and sophomore Travis Kreiter (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) turned in the low round of the day for the Braves with a 75 Tuesday to tie for 23rd as the duo helped the Bradley men's golf team finish ninth at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
Bradley shot its lowest round of the tournament, carding a 308 in the third round at the par-70 Prairie Dunes Country Club, to finish three shots behind eighth-place Southern Illinois in the final team standings. Wichita State claimed its fifth consecutive team title with a three-round total of 877.
Trolia was BU's top finisher in the event, tying for 21st at 230 after firing a final-round 76. Trolia, who finished the year with a team-best 75.9 stroke average, broke the school freshman stroke average record of 76.9 set by Rod Smith Jr., in 1977-78. In addition to the freshman stroke average mark, Trolia carded his 26th round in the 70's during his rookie season to mark the most sub-80 rounds by a Bradley individual since Scott Phegley shot 26 rounds in the 70's in 2005-06.
Kreiter had the low round of the day for the Braves with a final round 75 and finished one shot behind Trolia in a tie for 23rd at 231.
Freshman Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) tied for 40th overall at 239, shooting 85 during Tuesday's play, while sophomore Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) matched his second-round 79 with a third-round 79. Young was 43rd in the field at 240. Sophomore Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) continued his late-season push with his seventh sub-80 score in his last eight rounds, firing a final-round 78. Gunther was one shot behind Young in a tie for 44th at 241 in the final individual standings.
The Shockers were 18 shots better than second-place finisher Missouri State (895) with a 54-hole score of 877. Northern Iowa was 25 shots back of Wichita State in third at 902. Creighton finished fourth (903) and Illinois State climbed into fifth (904) in the final team standings.
Evansville slid to sixth (906) overall with Drake (7th - 910), Southern Illinois (8th - 926) and Bradley (9th - 929) completing the field, respectively.
