PEORIA, Ill. -- Freshman women's golfer Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) was presented with the Julia H Dodds Junior Girl's Award earlier this month according to an announcement by the Illinois Women's Golf Association (IWGA).
Established in 1992 to honor an outstanding graduating high school senior who best combines academics and golf along with serving as a positive role model, the award is named after 50-year IWGA member Julia H Dodds.
Walsh won the 2011 IHSA AA individual title and is the first individual medalist to help her team to the state title in the same year since 2000. A two-time all-conference selection, she helped the Knights to a fourth-place state showing as a junior and four consecutive conference championships during her prep career.
A member of the National Honor Society, Walsh was also part of the Spanish Honor Society at Mt. Prospect High School. In addition to helping tutor fellow students, her community service projects included summer volunteer work in Alabama and New Hampshire. Walsh was selected as the Senior Athlete of the Year at Mt. Prospect High School and received the District 214 Scholar-Athlete Award as a senior.
