PEORIA, Ill. -- Less than a week from opening its fall schedule, the Bradley men's golf team gets back into the swing of things Saturday and Sunday at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the par-71 Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
The Weibring Intercollegiate has been a frequent stop for the Braves over the years, playing in the event for the sixth consecutive year and ninth time in the last 12 seasons. BradleyBraves.com will provide a link to live scoring for the two-day, 54-hole tournament which begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
Joining Bradley in the tournament field are Missouri Valley Conference foes Illinois State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois. In-state opponents Illinois, Loyola, Northern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois will also be joined by Big Ten Conference members Nebraska and Wisconsin. Central Arkansas, Detroit and Miami (Ohio) round out the 15-team tournament.
Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) helped highlight last year's Weibring Intercollegiate for Bradley, firing a final-round 70 and tied for 17th in his first collegiate tournament last September. Trolia's 70 helped the Braves shoot a season-best 294 for the team's lowest round since October 2008.
Bradley opened the 2012-13 season with a seventh-place finish at the Midwest Shootout Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind. Junior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) was the squad's top finisher at the season-opening event, firing a pair of 75's to tie for sixth. The top-10 finish was the second top-10 showing for Gunther.
The Weibring Intercollegiate marks the halfway point of the fall schedule for the Braves, who won't be back in action again until Oct. 14 & 15 at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City, Mo.
