NORMAL, Ill. -- Sophomore Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) carded the lowest round of the young fall season with a second-round 73 to highlight play for the Bradley men's golf team at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Saturday.
Windy conditions and cool temperatures made for difficult play at the par-71 Weibring Golf Course Saturday. Masrin closed the day tied for 13th at 150, carding rounds of 77 and 73, while the Braves are 15th in the team standings after 36 holes of play.
Freshman Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) made his collegiate debut and is tied for 46th, six shots behind Masrin at 156 with rounds of 81 and 75. Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) is two back of Cox in a tie for 53rd (158), turning in scores of 80 and 78.
Junior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) fired a season-best 81 in the second round to close the day in 78th at 168 (87-81), while junior Andrew Wiesenborn (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) will enter Sunday's final round tied for 80th at 172 (89-83).
Illinois holds a commanding lead on the field, finishing the day at 578 and is 18 shots ahead of second-place Central Arkansas (596). Tournament-host Illinois State is third at 600, while Wisconsin and Missouri State ended the day tied for fourth at 607. Southern Illinois and Detroit are tied for sixth (609) and hold a one-shot lead on eighth-place Miami (Ohio) at 610.
Northern Illinois is 14th in the team standings (614) with Northern Iowa rounding out the top 10 at 618. SIU Edwardsville and Nebraska are three back in a tie for 11th at 621. Western Illinois closed Saturday's action in 13th (622), with Loyola (14th - 631) and Bradley (15th - 632) completing the field. The Braves rebounded from a first-round 325 with a 307 in the afternoon.
