Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- On the day Katie Yohn (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) broke the Bradley career record for made three-pointers her record setting three wasn't her biggest shot of the night, with the senior hitting a game-winning three from the wing with 1.9 seconds left to help Bradley edge defending Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champion Missouri State 80-79 Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum.
Yohn had made just 2-of-17 three-pointers in the four games prior to Saturday's contest, but connected on 3-of-4 triples, including the game-winning shot in the closing seconds to help Bradley (7-8 overall, 1-3 MVC) to its first MVC win of the year and snap a four-game losing skid.
The Braves trailed by as many as nine points in the second half and were behind 74-70 before mounting a late run. Sophomore Shronda Butts (Des Moines, Iowa/East) found junior Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) for a layup at the three-minute mark and a pair of Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) free throws with 2:31 to play pulled BU even at 74-74.
Missouri State (8-7 overall, 0-3 MVC) went back in front on a Christiana Shorter layup with 2:18 on the clock, but Frings answered with a three-point play with 1:40 remaining to give the Braves a 77-76 advantage. Both teams came up empty on a pair of possessions before Missouri State took a 79-77 lead on a Whitney Edie three-point play with 16.9 seconds.
Bradley used a pair of timeouts and inbounded the ball with 8.9 seconds left when Budd dribbled into the lane and found Yohn on the wing for the game-winning three with 1.9 seconds left. Missouri State's desperation heave at the buzzer was off the mark to give Bradley head coach Michael Brooks his first career Missouri Valley Conference victory.
After tying Genny Mueller's school career mark of 182 career three's in the first half, Yohn hit a three-pointer midway through the second half during a 10-0 BU run to break Mueller's record. Yohn scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half to help lead five Bradley players in double figures.
Butts led all players with 18 points and a career-best seven assists. Budd finished with 15 points, five assists and two steals, scoring 11 second-half points. Frings collected her first career double-double, tallying a season-best 12 points to go with a game-high 10 rebounds off the bench. Freshman Fantasia Vine (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) scored a season-high 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench, helping the Bradley reserves score 39 points.
Shorter led Missouri State with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Edie had 15 points to help pace four Bears in double figures. Tyonna Snow added 11 points off the bench and Hannah Wilkerson had 10 points to go with her team-high six assists.
Bradley closes out a season-long three-game, home stand Friday with a 6 p.m. game against Northern Iowa at Renaissance Coliseum.
