KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb. /Doniphan-Trumbull) is second overall and the Bradley women's golf team is second in the team standings after two rounds of play Monday at the UMKC Fall Invitational.
The Braves opened tournament play with a 299, tying for the eighth lowest round in program history, and held an eight-shot lead on the field heading into Monday afternoon's second round at the par-72 Shoal Creek Golf Club. Bradley followed up the morning 299 with a 317 to slip into second in the team standings at 616 behind Missouri Valley Conference Southern Illinois (599). The Salukis shot the lowest round of the tournament in afternoon with a three-over par 291.
Lemek was one of two Bradley individuals to shoot both rounds in the 70's Monday and heads into Tuesday's final round three shots back of individual leader Cassie Rushing (144) of Southern Illinois. After an opening round 72, Lemek followed with a 75 in the afternoon to close the day in second place at 147.
Sophomore Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) fired a season-best 76 in the first round and is ninth in the individual standings at 153 after a second-round 77. She enters Tuesday's action three shots out of the top five.
Junior Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) also carded a season-best in the first round of the day, matching Lemek's 72, but shot 82 in the afternoon to close Monday's play tied for 10th at 154. The opening round 72 was Hedemann's 45th career sub-80 round.
Sophomore Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) tied a season-best 79 to start the day and is tied for 28th overall at 162 after a second-round 83. Freshman Paige Jordan (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) is tied for 41st at 168 following rounds of 82 and 86 to round out the team scoring for the Braves. Junior Katarina Mangieri (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) is in the field as an individual and shot a season-best 81 in the first round. She is tied for 44th overall at 170 after the first day.
Southern Illinois is first in the team standings at 599 and owns a 17-shot lead on second-place Bradley (616). The Braves finished Monday three shots better than in-state foe Northern Illinois (3rd – 619) and have a six-shot edge on tournament-host UMKC (4th – 622). Drake sits in fifth at 630 with South Dakota State (6th – 637) and Nebraska-Omaha (7th – 645) following, respectively. Cal State Bakersfield is eighth (674) going into the final round and William Jewell completes the field in ninth at 694.
