PEORIA, Ill. -- Seniors Catie O'Leary (Jansville, Wis./Parker/Wisconsin) and Kelsey Budd (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) helped lead the Bradley women's basketball team at the squad's annual Red-White Scrimmage Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum.
Limited to nine players due to injuries, the Braves took on a trio of the team's male practice players along with former Bradley standouts Leah Kassing and Katie Yohn in the scrimmage which featured two eight-minute halves. The Braves came up with seven steals against the practice players, but the former BU standouts helped the practice squad to a 32-21 victory.
O'Leary paced the Bradley women's team with six points and also came up with a pair of steals in 11 minutes of action. Budd hit the only three-pointer of the scrimmage for the Braves and had five points.
Senior Kelly Frings (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) made her return to the court after missing the final 13 games of the 2012-13 season because of injury and had two points, one assist and one steal. Junior Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) was the top rebounder for the Braves, hauling down five boards.
For the second straight year, the Bradley women's team defeated the men's squad in the three-point shooting contest which was held in between the men's and women's portions of the event.
The Bradley women's basketball team plays its only exhibition game of the year, Friday, Nov. 1 when the Braves host Illinois-Springfield in a 7 p.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
