ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golf of the Week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon, earning the distinction for the second time this season and fifth time in her career.
Lemek garnered Valley Golfer of the Week recognition for the second time in three weeks after she tied for third at the 36th annual Pat Bradley Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., earlier this week and broke the school record for a 54-hole tournament with a three-round total of 212. She tied for third at the Pat Bradley Invitational for the second consecutive year and posted her fifth consecutive top-10 finish overall.
After opening play at the par-72 Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club's Cypress Links course with a one-under 71, Lemek matched a career best with a two-under par 70 in the second round. She finished out the tournament with a 71 to help Bradley tie the third lowest team round in school history (295) and finished two shots behind the individual medalist in a tie for third at 212.
Lemek's three-round score broke the previous school record for a 54-hole tournament of 215 shot by Meaghan LeBlanc at the 2005 MVC Championship in Springfield, Mo. Lemek finished the fall season with a Missouri Valley Conference best 73.25 stroke average and owned a 71.4 average over her final five rounds.
One of 23 individuals in conference history to earn league Golfer of the Week honors five times, Lemek is the fourth five-time selection in program history. She joined Kelly Amundrud, Bari Erais and Breanne Neufeld, who were all six-time MVC Golfers of the Week, as the only Braves to win the award at least five times.
