PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after earning last week's Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
Lemek tied for third at the 36th annual Pat Bradley Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., and broke the school record for a 54-hole tournament with a three-round total of 212. After opening play at the par-72 Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club's Cypress Links course with a one-under 71, Lemek matched a career best with a two-under par 70 in the second round. She finished out the tournament with a 71 to help Bradley tie the third lowest team round in school history (295) and finished two shots behind the individual medalist in a tie for third at 212. Enrolled in Bradley's award-winning Academic Exploration Program, Lemek owns a 3.00 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Lemek's three-round score broke the previous school record for a 54-hole tournament of 215 shot by Meaghan LeBlanc at the 2005 MVC Championship in Springfield, Mo. Lemek finished the fall season with a Missouri Valley Conference best 73.25 stroke average and owned a 71.4 average over her final five rounds.
