ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Junior runners Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) and Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) were both named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday.
The Bradley women's cross country team boasted a pair of MVC Scholar-Athlete honorees for the first time since 1999, with McMahon earning the distinction for the second straight year and Delvo garnering the award for the first time.
A health science major with a 3.42 cumulative grade point average, Delvo also took home All-Missouri Valley Conference honors after finishing seventh at the league championship Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Her time of 17:51.7 at the Valley Championship was 10 seconds out of the top five.
After a second-place individual finish at the Valley Championship, McMahon garnered the MVC's Elite 18 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest finish and cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site at each of the MVC's 18 team championships. She earned her third cross country all-conference honor of her career with a career-best time of 17:28.5 and was two and one-half seconds behind individual champion Rachael Brewer of Illinois State.
McMahon's second-place finish was the best showing at the MVC Championship for the Braves since 2009 and she posted the second-best time at the MVC Championship in school history. An English major, McMahon boasts a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
The duo helped the Braves to a second-place finish for the team's best result at the league championship since placing second in 2002.
Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete honors require individuals to finish among the top-20 at the conference championship, hold a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore in both athletic and academic standing.
Bradley will send a group of runners to the Huskie Open Friday at 4:30 p.m. in DeKalb, Ill., before the NCAA Regional in Ames, Iowa, Nov. 15.
