PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced by the league office Wednesday, in addition to garnering the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week award for the third time this fall after finishing second at the MVC Cross Country Championship.
McMahon became the second runner in Bradley history to capture three cross country all-conference honors with her second-place finish at last week's Valley Championship as she helped Bradley to a second-place team finish. She was second at the Valley Championship with a career-best time of 17:28.5 and her time is fourth among Bradley school marks.
The MVC's Elite 18 winner at the conference championship, she posted the best individual finish at the Valley Championship for the Braves since 2009 and her time is the second fastest at the league championship in program history. A seven-time all-conference performer in cross country and track and field, McMahon helped Bradley to a second-place team finish at the conference meet, marking the squad's best showing since a second-place finish in 2002. An English major, McMahon owns a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Bradley will send a group of runners to the Huskie Open Friday at 4:30 p.m. in DeKalb, Ill., before the NCAA Regional in Ames, Iowa, Nov. 15.
