CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) won medalist honors for the second time this year and the Bradley women's golf team shot a 311 Tuesday to move into a tie for ninth in the final team standings at the Islander Classic.
Lemek followed up Monday's par 72 at the Corpus Christi Country Club with the second-best round of the day, shooting a one-over par 73 to finish with a two-round total of 145 at the shortened Islander Classic. She finished two shots ahead of Lamar's Julie Aime, who finished second at 147 after a final round, two-under 70 Tuesday.
The medalist honors were the second in three tournaments for Lemek, who also claimed medalist honors at the Butler Fall Invitational, and third consecutive top-three finish. She is the first Bradley women's golfer to earn a medalist honors twice in the same season since Kelly Amundrud in 2010-11 and joined Kelly Dillon (twice in 1998-99) and Meaghan LeBlanc (three times in 2005-06) as the fourth player in program history to earn multiple medalist honors in the same school year.
After battling windy conditions Monday, Bradley fared better in Tuesday's final round, carding a 311 to move up into a tie with Houston Baptist for ninth in the team standings.
Sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) helped highlight Tuesday's play with a final-round 79 and tied for 45th at 165 to finish seven shots out of the top 20. Fellow sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) was three shots better than Hedemann on the final day, firing a 76 and finished one back of Hedemann in a tie for 48th at 166.
Junior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) tied with freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) for 67th at 174 to round out the team scoring. Roadley shot a final round 83, while Marschall finished out play with an 85. Freshman Lindsey Levin (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) played as an individual and tied for 73rd overall at 178 after a final-round 90.
Lamar shot a second-round 299 to hold off Oral Roberts for the team title with a 36-hole score of 616. The Golden Eagles were second in the team standings at 619, despite shooting the lowest round of the tournament Tuesday (297). Missouri State rounded out the top three at 622 and Sam Houston State followed in fourth at 626.
North Texas started the day in third, but slipped to fifth (631), while tournament-host Texas A&M Corpus Christi was sixth at 640. Central Arkansas followed in seventh (641) and Oklahoma City was eighth at 642. Bradley and Houston Baptist tied for ninth at 648, three shots ahead of 11th-place Stephen F. Austin (651). McLennan Community College was 12th (652), with Texas-Pan American (13th - 673) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (14th - 687) completing the field, respectively.
Bradley returns to action March 8-10 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
