AMES, Iowa -- Sophomore Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) beat her career-best time in the 3,000 meters by more than nine seconds and finished fifth in the seeded 3,000 meter race Saturday morning at the Iowa State Classic.
McMahon was two seconds behind fourth-place finisher Maggie Gannon of Iowa State with a career-best time of 9:43.20 to finish fifth. Her time was more than nine seconds faster than her previous career-best effort of 9:52.51 set earlier this season and is the top time in the 3,000 meters by a BU runner since 2000.
In addition, McMahon's time is less than eight seconds off former Bradley Track All-American Mary Ellen Hill's school-record time of 9:35.61 set in 1999.
The Bradley women's track and field team returns to action Friday at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
