RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Freshman Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) fired the low round of the day for the Bradley women's golf team, carding a four-over par 76 Saturday to help the Braves finish the opening day at the 11th annual Rio Verde Invitational in 15th.
Walsh is tied for 28th after firing a first-round 76 during Saturday's action at the par-72 Rio Verde Country Club's White Wing Course and is just two shots out of a tie for 11th heading into Sunday's final round. Sophomore Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) was the only other Bradley player to shoot a sub-80 round, carding a 78 to finish the day tied for 45th.
Freshman Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) had her streak of 16 consecutive rounds in the 70's come to an end with a first-round 80 and she is tied with sophomore Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) for 64th in the field. Freshman Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) rounded out play for the Braves with an 83 to finish the day tied for 81st.
Northern Arizona has a seven-shot lead on the field, shooting an even par 288 Saturday, with Eastern Michigan following in second at 295. Ball State and Toledo closed the first day tied for third, while Bowling Green and Wichita State are three back in a tie for fifth at 303. Xavier will begin the final round in seventh at 304, with the duo of Arkansas-Little Rock and Missouri State finishing Saturday's action tied for eighth (305).
Tournament-host Western Michigan rounded out the top 10 at 306 and was followed by 11th-place Northern Illinois (307). Texas A&M Corpus Christi is 12th overall at 308 and has a two-shot edge on 13th-place UMKC (310). Montana is two shots ahead of Bradley in 14th (312) with the Braves following in 15th (314). Ohio is four shots behind Bradley in 16th (318), with Akron closing out the field in 17th at 321.
