DES MOINES, Iowa – Playing a rare non-conference match against a
league rival, Bradley (6-7) dropped a 6-1 decision to host Drake (7-7) Friday
afternoon in the second competition of the day for the Braves at the Roger
Knapp Tennis Center.
Coming off a near-perfect performance in the day's tuneup against
Grand View, Bradley could not carry over the momentum into doubles action
against the Bulldogs, falling in all three matches to lose the opening doubles
point.
Sophomore Jessie Bertino,
who did not lose a game in either of her singles matches Friday, gave the
Braves their lone point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Cassia
Wojtalik nearly gave Bradley a second point after rallying from a 6-0 loss
in her first set at No. 3 singles. After
taking the second set by a 6-4 score, Wojtalik took Lea Kozulic to 14-12 in the
3rd-set tie breaker.
The Braves will continue their swing through Iowa by taking on
South Dakota in a 4:30 p.m. match at the Ames Racquet and Tennis Center, then
will visit Coe College Sunday (2 p.m.) before hosting Interstate 74 rival
Illinois State in their Missouri Valley Conference opener March 29 at the David
Markin Tennis Courts.
