PEORIA, Ill. – Already with more wins than any of the last three seasons, as well as the last two years combined, the Bradley Women's Tennis team will try to carry over its recent success in non-league play to Missouri Valley Conference action when the Braves (7-8) visit Interstate 74 rival Illinois State (6-8, 1-0 MVC) Friday afternoon.
The I-74 Rivalry match was scheduled to be played in Peoria, but has been moved to Illinois State's Gregory Street Tennis Courts due to the condition of the Markin Tennis Courts following last weekend's snow storm. The Braves will follow with a pair of non-conference home matches, Saturday (11 a.m.) against South Dakota State and April 5 against Omaha.
Saturday's match versus South Dakota State is a “Go Pink, Go Bradley” event: all fans in attendance may receive a pink bracelet, pink t-shirts will be on sale for the benefit of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and fans may sign up for Team Bradley, who will participate in the Peoria Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure May 11.
Paced by junior Adele Henke (Edina, Minn./Edina H.S.) at No. 1 singles, the Braves boast four players with winning individual records heading into the home stand. Sporting a 13-10 record for the year, including a 9-6 ledger at No. 1 singles this spring, Henke already has won more singles matches than any Bradley women's tennis player since Veronika Wojakowska went 15-17 in 2008-09. In addition, sophomores Carly Miles (12-10) and Jessie Bertino (10-7), as well as senior Kennedy Scott (6-4) will enter the weekend with winning singles records this season.
Admission to Bradley men's and women's tennis matches is free.
