Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- For the second time in as many days Bradley came up with key hits in extra inning to edge Indiana State, completing the three-game sweep with a 3-2, eight-inning victory against the Sycamores Saturday morning at Laura Bradley Park.
Freshman Kathryn Spenn (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville) got the big hit for Bradley (19-12 overall, 4-1 MVC) with a two-out, bases loaded infield single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Braves a 3-2 win. With the victory, Bradley completed a three-game sweep of a Missouri Valley Conference opponent for the first time since 2009 and the Braves improved to 4-1 to start conference play for the first time since 1986.
Bradley looked like it was going to cruise to an easy win after scoring an early run and senior pitcher Mackenzie Camp (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) did not allow a base runner until a two-out single in the fourth. Camp, who pitched four perfect innings to conclude Friday's 2-0 win against the Sycamores, had a stretch of 23 consecutive batters retired before the two-out single in the fourth by Indiana State.
Spenn scored the first run of the game for Bradley in the bottom of the second to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead. She ripped a one-out double to left center and fellow freshman Kendall Duffy (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) drove her in with a double to the fence in left center.
The Braves added another run in the bottom of the fourth after junior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) and Spenn each drew walks. Freshman Rachel Huggins (Mt. Zion, Ill./Mt. Zion) drove in Chandler from second with a single up the middle to push the BU advantage to 2-0.
Camp gave up just two singles in the first six innings and struck out six batters to move into 10th in career strikeouts at Bradley. Indiana State (11-20 overall, 2-7 MVC) finally got to Camp in the seventh, however, tying the game up with a pair of runs. Shelby Wilson led off the top of the seventh with a bloop single to right and Megan Stone belted a two-run homer to right center to knot the game at 2-2.
The Sycamores threatened to go in front later in the inning after putting runners at first and third with only one out. Bradley got the runner at third out on a failed squeeze attempt and junior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) retired the next batter she faced to get out of the inning and the teams went to extra innings for the second time in three games.
Indiana State retired Bradley in order in the bottom of the seventh and Lynch-Crumrine threw a scoreless top of the eighth, before the Braves earned their second walk-off win in less than 24 hours.
Junior Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and moved to third on a pair of groundouts. Clean-up hitter Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon/Lake Land C.C.) drew a two-out walk and Chandler also drew a base on balls on a full count to load the bases for BU. Spenn hit a ground ball near second base and Indiana State's Ashley Dickerson made a diving stop, but Chandler beat her throw to second base allowing Joseph to score the game-winning run from third.
Lynch-Crumrine earned the victory in the circle for Bradley in relief of Camp, improving her record to 11-6 on the year.
Bradley will face Creighton in a three-game series next weekend, opening the set with a noon doubleheader next Saturday in Omaha, Neb.
