MACOMB, Ill. – Junior Andrew Weisenborn (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) shot a season-best, three-over par 75 to lead the Bradley men's golf team Saturday as the Braves finished ninth at the 41st annual Beu Mussatto Invitational.
Weisenborn and fellow junior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) turned in the low rounds of the day for Bradley at the par-72 Harry Mussatto Golf Course, with both individuals carding 75's in the final round to help the Braves move up into ninth in the final team standings.
Sophomore Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) tied for 23rd in the field at 229 after shooting a third-round 81. Fellow sophomore Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) shot an 80 Saturday and was one shot behind Trolia in a tie for 29th (230).
Gunther's final-round 75 helped him move into a tie with Masrin for 29th (230) and Weisenborn's 75 helped him finish in a tie for 58th (235). Sophomore Garrett Cox (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) rounded out the team scoring for Bradley at 240.
Junior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) was in the field as an individual and was the top finisher among Bradley's entries, tying for 17th at 226. He followed up his career-best 69 from Friday's second round with a 78.
South Dakota State won the team title with a three-round score of 889, finishing two shots ahead of second-place IUPUI (891). Indian Hills was third at 893 with North Dakota State (4th – 895) and Lewis (5th – 897) rounding out the top five, respectively.
Valparaiso was 12 shots off the lead in sixth (901) and the Crusaders were eight shots better than both Western Illinois and South Dakota, which tied for seventh at 909. Bradley's final-round 311 helped the Braves move up into ninth (914) as the Braves finished four shots better than Nebraska-Omaha and Creighton, which both tied for 10th (918). Western Illinois Gold took 12th (930), while Wisconsin-Green Bay (13th – 941), St. Ambrose (14th – 960) and Chicago State (15th – 1,045) completed the field.
The Bradley men's golf team returns to action next weekend, hosting the Bradley Invitational Saturday and Sunday at WeaverRidge Golf Club.
