Box Score SEATTLE, Wash. -- Sophomore Alyson Clemente (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, but New Mexico scored three runs in each of the first two innings and topped Bradley 7-1 Friday morning in BU's first game at the Husky Softball Classic.
Bradley (11-10 overall) was looking to avenge a 3-1 loss to New Mexico suffered on Feb. 16 in Albuquerque, N.M., but the Lobos (12-12 overall) got to BU starter Mackenzie Camp early en route to a 7-1 victory.
The Braves were unable to capitalize on a pair of singles in the top of the first inning and New Mexico answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Chelsea Anaya followed a one-out walk with a triple and Naomi Tellez ripped a two-run homer to right field to give the Lobos an early 3-0 advantage.
New Mexico added three more runs on just one hit in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with a single and pair of one-out walks. Kaity Ingram drove in a run with a groundout and it appeared the Braves were going to get out of the inning without any more damage, but a Bradley error on a fly ball to center allowed two more runs to cross and push the Lobos lead to 6-0.
Bradley stranded runners on base in both the third and fourth, before New Mexico added another run in the bottom of the fourth. Ingram had a one-out triple and scored on a groundout to give the Lobos a 7-0 advantage.
The Braves capitalized on a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth after junior Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood) drew a base on balls to open the inning. Cole stole second and came around to score on Clemente's team-leading eighth double of the year to trim the New Mexico lead to 7-1.
New Mexico starter Kaela DeBroeck retired Bradley in order in the sixth and pitched around a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh to finish out the complete game victory, however. She struck out five and walked two as she improved to 2-1 on the year.
Camp took the loss for Bradley to drop to 5-4 on the season, striking out three in the setback.
Bradley continues play at the Husky Classic later today, facing Yale at 5 p.m. (CST) in Seattle, Wash.
