ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Junior men's golfer Andrew Weisenborn (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors for the first time in his career and freshman women's golfer Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) earned Valley Golfer of the Week for the third time this season, according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Weisenborn won a sudden death playoff to claim medalist honors and help the Bradley men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Bradley Invitational. After rounds of 77 and 76 Saturday, Weisenborn fired a career-best four-under par 68 at the par-72 WeaverRidge Golf Club for the lowest individual round by a Bradley player since October 2007 and tied Valparaiso's Andy Webb for the lowest three-round total of the tournament at 221. Weisenborn birdied the par-four 10th hole to win the playoff for medalist honors.
In addition to his career-best 68, Weisenborn helped Bradley tie the lowest round in school history as the Braves shot a six-under 282 Sunday to move into second place in the final team standings. His top-10 finish was the first of his career.
Lemek ran away with medalist honors in the first home tournament of her career, winning the Bradley Invitational by an impressive seven strokes while helping the Bradley women's golf team to its first team title since October 2010. She opened play with a par 72 at WeaverRidge Golf Club and shot a second-round 76 to close the first day with a six-shot lead on the field.
On Sunday, Lemek carded a three-over 75 to finish at 223 and top second-place finisher Taylor Barnes of South Carolina-Upstate by seven strokes. The medalist honors were the third of the year for Lemek as she joined former BU standout Meaghan LeBlanc as the only players in school history to win three individual tournament titles in the same season. LeBlanc, who won three tournaments in 2005-06 and was a four-time medalist is her career, is joined by Lemek and Kelly Dillon as the only players in program history to have three or more career individual tournament titles. Lemek's final-round 75 was her team-best 24th round in the 70's, which is tied for fifth among Bradley season marks and she is the seventh player in school history to post six top-10 finishes in the same season.
The MVC Player of the Week honors are the third this season for Lemek, making her just the sixth player in program history to garner three conference player of the week honors. The list includes three-time selection Agnes Kim, LeBlanc (four-time selection) and six-time honorees Kelly Amundrud, Bari Erais and Breanne Neufeld.
Weisenborn and the Bradley men's golf team are in action Monday and Tuesday at the Kemper Intercollegiate in Glenview, Ill.
Lemek and the women's golf team play at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Saturday and Sunday.
