Bradley golfers Christie Lin (Calgary, Alta./Sir John G. Diefenbaker) and Thea Hedeman (Saskatoon, Sask./Walter Murray) claimed the top two spots in the Saskatoon Women's Open Golf Championships this week at Rosthern, Sask., Valley Golf Course.
Lin won the two-day tournament by following Monday's opening-round 73 with a 71 Tuesday for a 144, 36-hole score. She finished one shot ahead of Hedemann, the defending champion, who carded a 145 with rounds of 75 and 70.
Four more Braves are competing in this week's Illinois Women's Amateur: Katarina Mangieri (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) both qualified for the championship flight, while Paige Jordan (St. Charles, Ill./East) qualified for the first flight and Lindsey Levin (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) the second flight. Walsh tied for eighth in qualifying by firing a 77 Tuesday at Cantigny Golf. Mangieri made the championship flight cut by tying for 19th with an 80.
In a first-round battle of sisters Wednesday, Allison Walsh advanced with a 1-up victory against younger sister Kiley Walsh. Allison Walsh then lost a 3-and-1 match to Illinois junior Ember Schuldt in the championship match Round of 16. Also in the first round of the championship flight Wednesday, Mangieri suffered a 4-and-3 loss to 11-seed Madasyn Pettersen of Rockford. Jordan lost her quarterfinal match in the first flight on the 19th hole, while Levin enjoyed the most-lopsided victory of the day in any flight, breezing to an 8-and-7 win in her 2nd Flight quarterfinal match. Levin will play a semifinal match Thursday.
