PEORIA, Ill. -- Four Bradley women's golfers were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, according to a recent announcement by the WGCA.
Juniors Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) and Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker), along with senior Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) earned the distinction for the second consecutive year. Sophomore Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) was also named a WGCA All-American Scholar following her freshman season on The Hilltop.
The WGCA All-American Scholar Team included a total of 644 women's collegiate golfers from NCAA Division I, II & III. The criteria for selection to the team required a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and competition in at least 50 percent of the rounds scheduled during the regular season.
Bradley's four WGCA All-America Scholar honorees were the most in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2012-13 and the Braves have had 15 individuals earn the distinction in the last four seasons.
Hedemann was a First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete in 2012-13 after ranking second on the team with a 78.97 season stroke average. Her season average ranked 20th among Bradley season marks and she carded 17 rounds in the 70's last year to become the fifth individual in program history to post two seasons with 17 or more sub-80 rounds. A chemistry major, Hedemann owns a 3.88 cumulative grade point average.
Lin was third on the squad in 2012-13 with an 80.21 stroke average and had three top-10 finishes, while ending the season with a 79.2 average over her final 22 rounds. She carded a one-under par 71 in the second round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and tied for ninth at the event for the second consecutive year. Lin is an actuarial science major with a 3.57 cumulative grade point average.
Marschall appeared in all but three tournaments as a junior and was fifth on the team with an 81.39 stroke average. She matched a career-best with a 74 in the opening round of the Redbird Invitational and helped the Braves to a second-place finish at the Butler Fall Invitational where she tied for 19th. A health science major, Marschall boasts a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
Walsh ended the season on a strong note, firing seven of her final 15 rounds of the 2012-13 season in the 70's and was Bradley's top finisher in two tournaments. She ranked fourth on the team with an 81.12 stroke average and had 11 sub-80 rounds on the year. Walsh shot a season-best 72 in the final round of the Cincinnati Spring Invitational and went to finish fourth in the event. A History & Social Studies Education major, she finished her freshman year with a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average.
