NORMAL, Ill. -- Junior Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) earned co-medalist honors at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, shooting a par 71 in the final round to finish in a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard, while the Bradley men's golf team tied for seventh in the field.
Trolia started Monday's final round tied for eighth and closed out action with a par-71 at the Weibring Golf Club to tie Nick Willenborg of Loyola and Nick Steffens of Western Illinois for medalist honors at 214. His three-round total of 214 was the lowest 54-hole score by a Bradley individual since Scott Phegley shot 211 at the Murray State Invitational in Oct. 2006.
In addition to the first medalist honors of his career, Trolia was the first Bradley men's golfer to earn top tournament honors at tournament not played at WeaverRidge since Travis Kreiter took home medalist honors at the Bulldog Florida Invitational in March 2011 and he is the first Bradley medalist during the Fall season for the Braves since Craig Tautges won the Ironhorse Intercollegiate in Oct. 2005.
Bradley shot 298 in the third round and slipped into a tie with Arkansas State for seventh (885) in the final team standings. The 885 team score was the lowest for the Braves since that the Murray State Invite during the 2006-07 campaign.
Freshman Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) missed a top 20 finish by one stroke, tying for 26th overall at 221 after a final round 76. Senior Daniel Young (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) also shot a final-round 76 and tied for 43rd (224), while junior Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School) carded a third-round 75 to tie for 48th overall at 226. Senior Kyle Gunther (Dunlap, Ill./Peoria Christian) rounded out the team scoring for Bradley with an 82 and was 78th overall (242).
Missouri Valley Conference foe Loyola claimed the team title with a 54-hole score of 868, edging second-place Purdue (869) by one stroke and tournament-host Illinois State (3rd - 870) by two shots. Arkansas Little Rock and Northern Iowa tied for fourth at 875 and Evansville finished the day in sixth (878), seven shots ahead of the Braves.
Bradley and Arkansas State tied for seventh at 885, one shot better than Western Illinois (9th - 886). SIU Edwardsville rounded out the top 10 at 887 and Valley foe Southern Illinois took 11th (894). Missouri State tied Oral Roberts and Illinois Wesleyan for 12th (896) and Butler completed the field in 15th (907).
The Braves continue their fall season Oct. 7 & 8 at the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
