Cross Country Teams Picked To Win Valley Titles

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Both the Bradley men's and women's cross country teams were selected as favorites for Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference Championship according to a vote of the league coaches announced by the league office Tuesday.
 
The Bradley women's squad received six of 10 first-place votes and finished with 94 points to edge last year's champion Southern Illinois (90 points) for top team honors.  The Salukis earned three first-place votes, while Illinois State (one first-place vote) was third in the poll at 76 points.  The Braves are currently ranked fourth in the latest USTFCCCA regional poll heading into Saturday's championship.
 
On the men's side, Bradley picked up five of nine first-place votes and received 74 points to top the poll.  Indiana State and defending champ Southern Illinois tied for second in the coaches' poll with 67 points.  SIU had two first-place votes, while Indiana State garnered one first-place selection.  The Bradley men's team is the highest-ranked Valley squad, currently in ninth in the USTFCCCA regional poll.
 
The MVC Cross Country Championship will be held Saturday in Carbondale, Ill.  The women's 5K is slated to start at 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8K race following at 11:30 a.m.
