DES MOINES, Iowa - Freshman Alexa Brandt and sophomore Ashley Thai both won their respective flight fifth-place matches to highlight Bradley's performance in the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championships Saturday at Waveland Tennis Courts.
Both Brandt and Thai rebounded from first-set losses Saturday to win their final singles matches of the weekend. Brandt recovered from a 4-6 loss in her opening set with 6-3 and 10-7 wins in the final two sets against Northern Iowa's Elvira Lopez to take fifth place in Flight 1 Singles. In a tight match against Evansville's Kennedy Craig, Thai rallied from a 5-7 loss in her first set to win the next two, 6-4 and 10-6, and claim fifth place in Flight 5 Singles. Although both Braves earned fifth-place finishes, they both will be among the four players in each flight to record winning records.
Sophomore Ariel Dechter (Flight 2) and senior Elizabeth Przystawski (Flight 6) both lost their respective semifinal matches in straight sets Saturday and will play for third place in their flights during the final day of competition Sunday.
All three Bradley doubles teams lost Saturday: Brandt/Thai (8-5) in the Flight 1 semis, Dechter/Irinka Toidze (8-4) in the Flight 2 semis and Aimee Manfredo/Przystawski (8-4) in the Flight 3 consolation bracket. Brandt/Thai and Dechter/Toidze will play for third place in their respective flights Sunday.
