OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior women's golfer Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./Doniphan-Trumbull) has been named the Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association (NWAGA) Player of the Year according to a recent announcement by the NWAGA.
Lemek claimed three NWAGA championships this summer, starting it off by defending her Stroke Play Tournament title at the West Wind Golf Club in Ogallala, Neb., as she won the event by a commanding 11 strokes. She followed it up with medalist honors at the State Amateur Championship. Lemek used a four-under par 68 in the second of three rounds to finish at even par 216 and win the State Amateur Championship by five strokes.
Lemek capped off her summer by claiming the Nebraska Match Play title in July. The tournament's No. 2 seed, Lemek rallied to win the 15th and 17th holes against Julie Seevers to win the match play crown at Oak Hills Country Club 1-up.
The NWAGA Player of the Year adds to the long list of honors for Lemek, which includes the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year last spring. She was the MVC medalist at the 2014 league championship and was selected as the Valley's Golfer of the Week three times this fall. Lemek, who finished the fall with a conference-best 73.00 stroke average, has climbed into a tie for fourth in school history for career sub-80 rounds with 66 and owns a personal-best 19 consecutive sub-80 rounds heading into the spring.
