NEW YORK, N.Y. – Senior Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn/Woodbury) stole the show on Broadway, tying a school record with 38 points, but Columbia rallied to top the Bradley women's basketball team 81-74 in overtime Friday at Levien Gymnasium.

Young matched Judy Burns' school record for points in a game which has stood since Feb. 1, 1983, with a career-best 38 points and scored a key hoop ate in regulation to help the Braves force the overtime, despite Bradley leading most of the contest.

Bradley led for 33 minutes of regulation, but needed a late rally to force the extra period.  The Braves led 33-29 at the half and stretched the advantage to as many as nine points in the opening moments of the second half.  The lead stood at 46-37 lead nearing the 13-minute mark before Columbia would start to chip away at the deficit.

Columbia's Alexa Guiliano capped a 12-4 run for the Lions with one of her five three-pointers to put her squad in front 56-54 with 5:15 left in the second half.  Bradley was able to pull even and later took a 63-60 lead with 1:16 to play in regulation on a Young three-point play.

Back-to-back hoops and a pair of free throws gave Columbia a 66-63 edge with just under 30 seconds left on the clock when Young cut the Lions' lead to 66-65 with a driving layup.  Young tipped the ensuing Columbia inbounds pass to sophomore Leti Lerma (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine), who split a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining and Columbia's last-second shot was off the mark as the team's went to overtime at 66-66.

In overtime, Young's driving layup with 1:08 to play gave Bradley a 74-72 advantage as she tied the school single-game scoring record (38 points) and mark for most field goals in a game (17).  The basket was the final points of the night for the Braves, however, as Giuliano answered with a three-pointer on the next Columbia possession to put the Lions back in front 75-74

Columbia made a pair of free throws after getting the ball back on a Bradley charge and another pair of Lions free throws after the second turnover in as many trips down the floor for the Braves pushed the Columbia lead 79-74 with 22 seconds.  Bradley got whistled for another charge and Sara Mead made her fifth and sixth free throws in the final 33 seconds to seal the 81-74 victory for the Lions.

Young led three Bradley players in double figures with her career-best 38 points.  She made 17-of-29 shots from the field and also had four rebounds and three steals in 44 minutes.  Vine added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists before fouling out.  Freshman Anneke Schlueter (Ulm, Germany/Max-Weber-Schule) scored a season-best 10 points in the setback, while Lerma grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Four Columbia players scored in double figures led by Giuliano's 20 points.  Amara Mbionwu corralled a game-high 15 rebounds to help pace the Lions.

Bradley will play its home opener Sunday at 2 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State at Renaissance Coliseum.
