ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore Patrick Campbell (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa) is the first Bradley men's cross country runner since 2000 to be named a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete according to an announcement by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Campbell, who was the 2013 MVC Freshman of the Year, missed honorable mention all-conference honors for the second straight year with a 16th-place finish at last week's MVC Cross Country Championship in Carbondale, Ill. He posted a career-best 8K time of 24:50.91 to top his previous career-best time by six seconds and missed out on all-conference honors by almost four seconds as he helped the Bradley men match their best league finish (third) in program history.
A political science major with a 3.70 cumulative grade point average, Campbell is the first Bradley men's cross country runner to earn MVC Scholar-Athlete honors since Aaron Hart earned the honor in 1999 and again in 2000.
Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete honors require individuals to finish among the top-20 at the conference championship, hold a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore in both athletic and academic standing.
Campbell and the Bradley men's cross country squad will be back in action when they host the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday, Nov. 14 at Newman Golf Course.
