PEORIA, Ill. -- For the second consecutive week, senior guard Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Bradley women's basketball team to a 76-64 victory against Missouri Saturday.
Young netted 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go with six rebounds, five assists and six steals in 37 minutes of action in the win against Mizzou. The first Bradley player with 20 points, five boards, five assists and five steals in a game since Raisa Taylor on March 5, 2011, Young hit a career-best two three-pointers and also tied a career-high with her five assists to help the Braves to their first win against a SEC team. She climbed up five spots on Bradley's career scoring list into 24th with her third 20-point game in four outings. An elementary education major, Young owns a 3.85 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Young and the Bradley women's basketball team return to action next week, hosting Chicago State Thursday, Dec. 18 in a special 11 a.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
