PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior guard Michelle Young (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after averaging 15.5 points and 4.0 steals per game in a pair of games last week.
Young tied for game-high honors with 16 points against Chicago State, also adding three boards, one assist and five steals in 29 minutes of action vs. the Cougars. Forced out of the starting lineup due to illness against defending Mid-American Conference champ Bowling Green Sunday, Young came off the bench to tie for game-high honors with 15 points. She was 5-of-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line against the Falcons and also had three rebounds, one assist, a pair of blocks and three steals. An elementary education major, Young owns a 3.87 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Young and the Bradley women's basketball close out the non-conference portion of the schedule Tuesday, Dec. 30 with a 7 p.m. game against in-state foe Northern Illinois at Renaissance Coliseum.
