SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) was less than two seconds off a school record in the 800 meters and fellow sophomore Caitlin Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) nearly broke five minutes in the mile to highlight action for the Bradley women's track and field team at the Alex Wilson Invitational Saturday.
Delvo posted a career-best time of 2:11.30 to win her heat in the 800 meters. Her time ranks third in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and is second in school history behind Mary Goldkamp's school record of 2:09.61. Delvo finished ninth overall in the 800 meters Saturday. Junior Kyela Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) was close behind in 13th overall at 2:14.58.
Busch clocked a career-best time of 5:01.33 to finish seventh in the mile for the 10th-best time in school history, while sophomore Rachel Sudbury (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk) ran the mile for the first time this season and was 10th overall at 5:11.60 in the first event of the day for the Braves..
In the 3,000 meters, freshman Lauren Cunningham (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) became the fifth individual in program history to break 10 minutes. She was 11th overall with a season-best time of 9:57.91 for the fifth fastest time in Bradley history. Senior Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) posted a season-best time of 10:09.30 to finish 13th.
The Bradley women's track and field team returns to action at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa, next Saturday and Sunday.
