PEORIA, Ill. - The Bradley women's tennis team got off to a strong start Saturday by sweeping the three doubles matches versus Northern Illinois, but the Huskies rallied by winning 5-of-6 singles matches for a 5-2 win at the Clubs at River City.
Freshman Ariel Dechter and junior Elizabeth Przystawski got things started with a dominant 8-1 No. 3 doubles. The pairing of junior Carly Miles and freshman Ashley Thai (no. 2) clinched the doubles point with their 8-4 win, then seniors Adele Henke and Ashley Rodefeld completed the sweep with a thrilling, 8-7 win in a tie-breaker (7-3).
After Northern won the first singles point, Thai continued her strong start to the spring with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, evening her season record at 11-11. However, NIU ended up taking the final 4 singles matches to close out the dual.
Bradley returns to action next weekend for the first of seven straight duals away from Peoria when they head to Ames, Iowa take on Iowa State (February 28, 10 a.m.) and South Dakota (March 1, 2 p.m.)
