Lemek Tied For Fourth; Bradley In 10th At Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./ Doniphan-Trumbull) was tied for the lead after the first round of play and finished Monday tied for fourth in the individual standings, while the Bradley women's golf team is 10th overall at the Islander Classic.

The defending medalist at the Islander Classic, Lemek matched a career-best with a two-under 70 at the par-72 Corpus Christi Country Club to open tournament action and was tied for the lead after 18 holes.  She shot a 78 in the afternoon to finish the day tied for fourth overall at 148.  Lemek enters Tuesday's final round five shots behind individual leader Elia Folch of Oklahoma City, who is first in the standings at 143 (70-73). 

Sophomore Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) is tied for 32nd after 36 holes at 157, carding rounds of 78 and 79 Monday.  Fellow sophomore Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) shot a pair of 80's to close the opening day three shots back of Walsh in a tie for 46th (160). 

Freshman Paige Jordan (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) followed up a morning round of 82 with an 83 in the afternoon to finish the day tied for 58th (165), while junior Katarina Mangieri (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) is four shots behind Jordan in a tie for 71st (169) after rounds of 83 and 86. 

Bradley was tied for seventh following a first-round score of 310.  The Braves slipped into 10th in the team standings, however, after a second-round 320 and closed the day at 630.  Lamar holds a five-shot lead on the field with a 36-hole score of 597, with Houston Baptist following in second at 602.  Oklahoma City is third overall at 606 and North Texas is 18 shots behind Lamar in fourth at 615.

Central Arkansas rounds out the top five at 617, while Oral Roberts sits in sixth at 618.  In-state foe Northern Illinois starts the final round is seventh (623) and has a one-shot edge on eighth-place Stephen F. Austin (624).  Sam Houston State follows in ninth (629), one shot ahead of 10th-place Bradley (630).  The Braves were five shots better than tournament-host Texas A&M Corpus Christi, which finished the first day in 11th at 635.  South Dakota is 12th overall at 639, while Texas-Pan American (13th – 646), McLennan Community College (14th – 648), Drake (15th – 658) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (16th – 683) round out the field.

Bradley concludes play at the Islander Classic tomorrow with the final road scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m.
