Lemek Defends Nebraska Stroke Play Title

Lemek Ties For Fifth; Bradley Finishes 10th At Islander Classic

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore Danielle Lemek (Doniphan, Neb./ Doniphan-Trumbull) finished four shots behind individual champion Elia Folch for medalist honors in a tie for fifth and the Bradley women's golf team was 10th in the team standings at the Islander Classic Tuesday.

The Braves turned in their best round of the tournament with a final round 307, but were unable to climb in the final standings, finishing one shot behind ninth-place Sam Houston State.

Lemek posted her sixth consecutive top-10 finish, wrapping up the tournament with a 75 to finish in a tie for fifth at 223.  She was four shots back of Folch for medalist honors.  The top-10 finish was the 12th of Lemek's career, moving her into a tie with Breanne Neufeld for fifth in school history.  In addition, Lemek fired her 42nd sub-80 round as she moved into 10th in school history in career rounds in the 70's.

Sophomore Allison Walsh (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Mt. Prospect) matched her lowest round of the tournament Tuesday at the par-72 Corpus Christi Country Club to finish in a tie for 35th (235).  After a pair of 80's on Monday, sophomore Jenna Roadley (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Sturgeon Heights) was one shot better in the final round (79) and was four back of Walsh at 239 to tie for 44th in the field.

Freshman Paige Jordan (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) carded her lowest round since the first round of the fall and missed matching a season-best score by one stroke.  Jordan tied for 50th at 240 after a final round 75.  Junior Katarina Mangieri (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) rounded out the scoring for the Braves with a 92 and was 79th at 261.

Lamar took the team title, shooting seven-over par 295 Tuesday and had a three-round total of 892.  Houston Baptist was 16 shots back in second at 908 and Oral Roberts rounded out the top three at 915.  Oklahoma City was two shots out of the top three in fourth at 917, while North Texas finished fifth at 921.  Northern Illinois missed a top-five showing by one stroke, taking sixth at 922 and Central Arkansas was close behind in seventh (923).

Stephen F. Austin was eight shots better than the Braves in eighth (929), with Sam Houston State edging out Bradley for ninth (936) by one stroke.  Bradley was 10th (937), six shots ahead of 11th-place Texas A&M Corpus Christi (943).  Texas-Pan American took 12th (960) and was followed by McLennan (13th - 962), South Dakota (14th - 963), Drake (15th - 990) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (16th - 1,022) to complete the field.

The Braves return to action March 7-9 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
