Box Score TEMPE, Ariz. - Bradley forced extra innings by scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Indiana spoiled the comeback effort with a 3-run outburst of its own in the eighth inning for a 6-3 win in the season-opener for both teams Friday evening at the Kajikawa Classic.
Brooke Boetjer earned the win in relief by tossing the final 3.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five. Madeline Lynch-Crumrine suffered the loss for the Braves in a complete-game effort. Though she allowed only one earned run, Lynch-Crumrine surrendered nine hits and seven walks in her 8.0 innings.
Facing a 3-0 deficit going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Bradley got on the board when pinch-hitter Baileigh Basham opened the frame with a home run to center field. After an RBI single by Rachel Huggins, Lynch-Crumrine hit for designated player Mariah Cole and came through with a 2-out, run-scoring single to drive home the tying run.
The score remained tied through the seventh inning before the international tie-breaker was invoked to start the eighth inning. With a runner at second base to start the inning, Indiana reclaimed the lead when No. 9 hitter, second baseman Erin Lehman, came through with an RBI single to right field.
Lehman finished 2-for-4 with a run scored to go along with her run batted in, while Hoosiers designated player/first baseman Kassi Farmer reached base five times by going 3-for-3 and drawing two walks.
Bradley leadoff hitter Brianne Joseph was 2-for-4 to pace Bradley's 7-hit attack.
The Braves were scheduled to follow with a second game Friday night against Colorado State. Bradley will face #24 California and Penn State Saturday, then will close up the season-opening tournament Sunday against San Jose State.
