Box Score TEMPE, Ariz. – Colorado State's Holly Reinke struck out six in a complete game, one-hit shutout as she helped power the Rams to an 8-0 victory against Bradley Friday night to conclude the first day of play at the Kajikawa Classic.
Sophomore Kendall Duffy (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) notched the only hit of the contest for the Braves (0-2 overall) with a two-out double in the fourth. Bradley drew five walks off Reinke, but left six runners on in the setback.
Freshman Jaelen Hull (Clifton, Ill./Bishop McNamara) got off to a strong start, retiring Colorado State (2-0 overall) in order in the bottom of the first and did not allow a runner past first base in the first three innings.
The Rams struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth, however, to grab the lead. Ashlie Ortega was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth and later scored on a double off the bat of Danielle Wikre. Chelsea O'Connor, who singled earlier in the frame, scored on a groundout and Wikre capped the three-run inning when she came home on a double steal.
Wikre, who was 3-for-3 on the day, opened the sixth with a single and Colorado State loaded the bases with two more singles. Taylor Hutton drove in a pair of runs with a single to left center to chase Hull out of the game and the Rams loaded the bases with a two-out walk. Ortega drew a bases loaded walk to give CSU a 6-0 lead and O'Connor ended the game with a two-run single to right as the Rams posted the 8-0 shutout.
Hull took the loss for Bradley in her first career appearance, striking out three and walking two.
Bradley continues play at the Kajikawa Classic Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. (CST) game against 24th-ranked California. The Braves will face Penn State tomorrow at 3 p.m.
