Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. – Senior Bailiegh Basham (Mattoon, Ill./Matton/Lake Land C.C.) had a two-run triple in the bottom of the first to give Bradley a 2-0 lead, but 24th-ranked California used a four-run fourth inning to go in front and went to top the Braves 10-3 Saturday at the Kajikawa Classic.

Basham, who homered yesterday against Indiana for Bradley's first run of the season, went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI Saturday afternoon against the Golden Bears.  Bradley (0-3 overall) had runners at second and third after junior Brittany Burgess (Utica, Ill./St. Bede) and senior Brianne Joseph (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) walked to lead off the bottom of the first and Cal hurler Taylor Cotton tossed her second wild pitch of the game.  Basham drove both runners in with a triple to stake the Braves to an early 2-0 lead.

Senior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) scattered two Cal singles over the first three innings, but Bradley failed to take advantage of scoring opportunities in the second and third; leaving a runner in scoring position in each frame.

Victoria Jones tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the fourth and a walk and single later in the inning allowed Breana Kostreba to put the Bears in front 4-2 with a two-run double.

Kostreba struck again in the top of the sixth after Alleah Laxamana doubled, belting a two-run home run to push California's lead to 6-2.

Sophomore Kathryn Spenn (Williamsville, Ill./Williamsville) doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth, collecting Bradley's first hit since Basham led off the third with a single.  Spenn was at third with only one out, but Cal's Nisa Ontiveros get out of the jam unscathed and the Bears added four more runs in the top of the seventh.

A walk and back-to-back hit batters loaded the bases for California in the top of the seventh for Jordan Wallace who drove in a pair with a double.  Wallace scored on a single by Laxamana and Laxamana later scored on a Bradley error with two outs as the Bears pushed the advantage to 10-2.

Back-to-back doubles by seniors Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) and Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Catham Glenwood) to open the bottom of the seventh plated Chandler to cut the Cal lead to 10-3, but the Braves didn't manage another hit and left a pair of runners on to close out the 10-3 setback.

Lynch-Crumrine struck out three and walked four in the loss to drop to 0-2 on the year.  Despite coming in relief, Ontiveros pitched seven innings out of the bullpen and scattered five hits, one walk and seven strikeouts in the victory to improve to 2-0.

Bradley continues play at the Kajikawa Classic Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. (CST) game against Penn State.
