Box Score KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Junior Shannon King (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) collected two of Bradley's three hits, but Bradley couldn't push a run across as Oregon starter Cheridan Hawkins struck out 15 Braves as the fourth-ranked Ducks topped BU 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Citrus Classic.
Oregon (16-2 overall) took advantage of a Bradley error in the bottom of the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Janelle Lindvall led off the inning with a double and the Ducks later had runners at second and third with one out. Jasmine Smithson-Willet reached on a fielder's choice and two runs came home on a Bradley error on the play.
Bradley (5-12 overall) got its first hit of the game in the top of the third on a leadoff single by senior Alex Chandler (Needles, Calif./Needles) and the Braves had runners on first and second following a Mariah Cole (Springfield, Ill./Chatham Glenwood) walk. Hawkins retired the next three batters in order, however, pushing her strikeout total in the game to seven through the first three frames.
The Braves couldn't capitalize on a King single to leadoff the fifth and King had a two-out double in the seventh, but Bradley never advanced a runner past second base in the loss.
Senior Madeline Lynch-Crumrine (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Sedro-Woolley) pitched around a pair of Oregon singles in the bottom of the sixth, striking out the final batter of the inning to get out of the jam and move into a tie with Amy Elza for fifth in career strikeouts at Bradley with her 316th. Lynch-Crumrine fell to 3-6 on the year with the loss, giving up five hits and two unearned runs.
A First-Team All-Pac 12 performer last year, Hawkins improved to 9-2 on the year with the complete game shutout. She struck out 15 and walked one, while giving up three hits.
Bradley continues play at the Citrus Classic Saturday afternoon with a 4:45 p.m. (CST) game against Syracuse.
