ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Sophomore Alex Shane (Morton, Ill./Morton/Illinois Central) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week according to an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon after leading the Bradley men's golf team to the title at the 42nd annual Beu Mussatto Invitational earlier this week. 

Shane, who posted a 75.25 average in two tournaments for the week, posted the first top-10 finish of his Bradley career as he tied for third to lead the Braves to the team title at the 13-team Beu Mussatto Invitational.  He opened play at the par-72 Harry Mussatto Golf Course with a one-over par 73 and closed a windy opening day of play tied for sixth in the individual standings at 149 after carding a second-round 79.

Shane finished up the tournament with a 72 to move into a tie for third in the final individual standings at 224, one shot out of second place, as he posted Bradley's lowest 54-hole individual score of the spring.  He helped Bradley win its second tournament title of the 2013-14 season to give the Braves two tournament wins in the same year for the first time since they last won the Beu Mussatto Invitational in Macomb, Ill., during the 1995-96 campaign.  On Saturday, Shane tied for eighth at the I-74 Individual Challenge against Illinois State with a 77 at the par-71 Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill. 

The Valley Golfer of the Week honors makes Shane the third Bradley individual to garner the award this season, joining juniors Seth Trolia (Mahomet, Ill./Seymour) and Danny Masrin (Palatine, Ill./Jakarta International School), who both earned the distinction during the fall season.  Shane is third on the team with a 76.54 season stroke average. 

The Bradley men's golf team will host the Bradley Invitational Saturday and Sunday at WeaverRidge Golf Club, with both day's action slated to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
