PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore runner Kristen Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after breaking the school record in the 3,000 meters.
Bush won the 3,000 meters at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Saturday in Nashville, Tenn., breaking Mary Ellen Hill's 1998 school record in the event. Busch improved her career-best time by nearly 18 seconds and topped former All-American and Bradley Hall of Fame member Mary Ellen Hill's previous school record of 9:40.11 by almost four seconds with a time of 9:36.62. A health science major, Busch owns a 3.39 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Busch will help highlight a busy week for the Bradley track and field teams, competing in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational Friday. The Braves will also have individuals competing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and Eastern Illinois Big Blue Classic this weekend.
