PEORIA, Ill. – The Bradley women's tennis team has added a third recruit for the 2014-15 season with the announcement that West Virginia sophomore Irinka Toidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) has signed her financial aid paperwork at Bradley and will transfer after the 2014 spring semester.
“I am so excited to welcome Irinka to Bradley,” said first-year Braves head coach Matt Tyler. “She comes to us with a wealth of tennis experience after playing the past two years in the Big 12 at West Virginia. Irinka is a very talented and hard-working person, both on and off the tennis court. I couldn't be more impressed with her, not only as a tennis player, but as a person. I think she adds a lot of depth to our roster and is a fantastic addition.”
Toidze has played primarily Nos. 5 and 6 singles during her two seasons at West Virginia, competing against some of the nation's top teams in the Big 12 Conference. Selected to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team, Toidze was a top-five ranked player in the Republic of Georgia throughout her youth tennis career. She also was ranked as highly as No. 75 among European 14U players and in the top 150 of European 16U players.
Toidze joins a recruiting class that includes Alexa Brandt (Broomfield, Colo.) and Aimee Manfredo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River H.S.). Brandt currently is rated the 187th player nationally and fourth in the Mountain Region by TennisRecuiting.net. She reached the round of 16 this past weekend at USTA Intermountain Spring Masters. Manfredo currently ranks 137th nationally and 19th in the Middle Atlantic Region by TennisRecruiting.net. With the New York high school season played in the fall, Manfredo won her third consecutive Division IV title and he first county singles crown, before suffering her only loss of the 2013 season in the state tournament semifinals.
