Coffey Highlights Day One At Meyo Invite With 5,000 School Record

Records Fall At San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Junior Chase Coffey (Hanna City, Ill./Farmington) broke a school record for the second consecutive week, posting the best time in school history in the 10,000 meters and fellow junior Eric Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) topped the school record in the men's 1,500 meters at San Francisco State Distance Carnival Friday.

Coffey got a busy day for the Bradley men's and women's track and field teams started Friday morning with a school record time of 29:59.20 in the 10,000 meters.  He finished fourth in the event and broke the 1984 school record of 30:05.26 set by Charles Perkins in the first 10,000 meter run of his collegiate career.

Freshman Patrick Campbell (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa) also turned in a strong effort in the 10,000 meters, posting the fifth-best time in Bradley history at 30:40.52 to finish 14th overall.

Delvo won the men's 1,500 meters with a meet record time of 3:47.55.  His time was five seconds better than his previous career-best time and beat Chris George's 2007 school record of 3:51.59 by four seconds.

Sophomore Caitlin Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) ran her first career 5,000 meters Friday afternoon at the San Francisco Distance Carnival and took fifth overall to help highlight the day for the Bradley women's squad.  Her time of 16:48.11 is third in school history as she joined Sarah McMahon and Mary Ellen Hill as the only individuals to break 17 minutes in the event. 
 
At the Stanford Invitational, sophomore Emily Delvo (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin) finished fourth in her heat with a 1,500 meter time of 4:28.75.  

Senior Whitney Schumacher (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) finished second in the women's 5,000 meters at the EIU Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Ill., Friday night.  She topped her career-best time by six seconds and posted the seventh fastest 5,000 meter time in school history at 17:24.13, while freshman Lauren Friese (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) was fourth in the field at 17:48.76.

In the men's 5,000 meters, freshman Mike Bianchina (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) paced five Bradley men in the at the EIU Big Blue Classic, finishing sixth overall at 15:05.36. 

Later tonight, junior Sarah McMahon (Colfax, Wis./Colfax) and sophomore Kristen Busch (Waterloo, Ill./Freeburg) are scheduled to run in the 10,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational.

The Bradley track and field teams will continue competition at both the Stanford Invitational and EIU Big Blue Classic Saturday afternoon.
