PEKIN, Ill. – Junior Seth Trolia and senior Kyle Gunther are tied for second, while senior Daniel Young is tied for ninth as the trio helped the Bradley men's golf team to the lead after the Bradley Invitational's opening round Saturday.
Gunther shot his lowest round of the spring with a one-under 71 at the par-72 Pekin Country Club and Trolia matched him with a first-round 71 as the duo finished the day tied for second. Jacob Groninger of IPFW leads the field after firing a three-under 69.
Bradley shot one-over 289 Saturday and will enter Sunday's final round with a one shot advantage on second-place Evansville (290). Detroit is four shots back in third at 294 and IPFW closed the day in fourth (295). Loyola is six shots behind the Braves in fifth (296), while Western Illinois is sixth overall at 301. Green Bay finished Saturday's action in seventh (307) and Northern Iowa rounds out the field in eighth (317).
Young also turned in his lowest round of the spring with a 72 and is tied for ninth to help lead the Braves to the team lead. Junior Danny Masrin and sophomore Alex Shane rounded out the team scoring for Bradley with 75's to close the day tied for 20th.
Freshman Bobby Jacobs is in the field as an individual and shot his lowest round of the spring (73) to finish the day tied for 13th. Garrett Cox is tied for 27th after shooting 77, while John Fortuna turned in his lowest round of the spring with an 81 and is tied for 44th.
The final round of the Bradley Invitational will tee off Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Pekin Country Club.
